Last week we had the chance to go to Santiago, the second largest city in the country, with a couple of the girls (it was a day trip with their university), and saw a museum that taught us about Dominican culture.

There is a huge amount of influence from Africa and Europe, and a lot of the food that we´ve eaten here, that we´ve even learned to make ourselves, is actually an African dish.
It was interesting to see history from a different viewpoint, how, for example, the dominating power went back and forth between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and at times the US was the invading nation, and viewed in a negative way.

The rest of the day we spent swimming and tanning... ;) then came home the same night, it was an exhausting day, since we had left that morning at 2 AM, spent 6 hours on a bus (ugh) then after all day there we had another 6 hour bus ride...and let it suffice to say that it involved college students without much supervision...I was so relieved to finally be home and off the bus!
